Indian automaker Tata Motors recently unveiled the Tata Nano. At $2,500, the Tata Nano is the world's cheapest car. $2,500 is around 100,000 Indian rupees.
The Tata Nano is being referred to as “The People’s Car” by Tata Motors. It will be a rear wheel drive, powered by a 33hp, 624 cc, two-cylinder engine. Mileage estimates are as high as 50 mpg. The Tata Nano will be about 3.1 meters long, 1.5 meters wide, and 1.6 meters high.
The Tata Nano has already received a lot of buzz and is positioned to revolutionize the global auto industry. A $2,500 price tag will bring the luxury of car ownership within the grasps of thousands, if not millions of people around the world.
The People’s Car is set to launch in India in late 2008.
